Welcome to the PFSS Travel Services

The PFSS Travel Services section offers the full range of corporate travel services for NPF Employees and CF personnel traveling in support of approved Morale and Welfare Programs and activities, including air and rail transportation, car rentals, and hotel accommodation.

The travel coordinators can usually also assist event coordinators by making arrangements for conference rooms, audio-visual equipment, and catering in support of conferences, workshops, and meetings.

Service provider

Reservations are made through DND Travel Services contract currently held by AMEX. which offers the following advantages:

  • Access to DND rebates. The AMEX system used to service DND is configured to automatically to factor in “at the time of the booking” the rebates negotiated by DND with major airlines;
  • Access to the full range of air travel alternatives, including:
    • Major carriers through the SABRE Computerized Reservation System
    • 2nd tier carriers such as Westjet, Jetsgo, CanJet;
    • Wholesale or consolidator airfares for less flexible but very low-priced trans-border (USA) and international travel.
  • Emergency Service through a 1-800 number available on a 24/7 basis for travelers who may need to change their travel reservations while on the road;
  • Electronic Billing: DND was the first federal government department to implement this feature. Costs are debited directly from the DND/NPF accounts and reports provided for managers to confirm that debits are in accordance with travel conducted;
  • Single point of contact for bookings / billing inquiries. personnel can obtain clarifications and resolve any discrepancy by making one phone call;
  • Traveler profiles. For frequent travelers, traveler information and preferences are kept on file to reduce the amount of time necessary to complete a booking;
  • Frequent flyer points. These can now be accumulated by travelers who can make the necessary arrangements directly at the airline or car rental counter.

Note: The travel coordinators are usually in a position to offer a variety of alternatives that includes full fare economy, excursion and seat sales - the price is reduced tremendously when bookings are made 21, 14, or even 7 days in advance and when the traveler accepts a Saturday night stay for international flights. The selection of a travel alternative rests with the traveler and the applicable travel approving authority.
