Families have their say in annual Participant Survey

The Military Family Services Program (MFSP) Participant Survey gives military families a chance to have their say about the services they receive at their local Canadian/Military Family Resource Centre (C/MFRC): which services work well, which could use a tweak or two, and which aren’t working well at all. Similar surveys have been conducted in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

In 2011, families were invited to complete a MFSP Participant Survey between 4 January and 4 March. The results have now been tabulated, and local reports have been forwarded to each C/MFRC. These reports will give each C/MFRC a detailed breakdown of their results, highlighting successes and indentifying which services require attention.

In addition to the local reports, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) is providing a Summary Report to give a collective picture of how well families think the MFSP is meeting their needs. C/MFRCs will find it useful to compare their local results to the program-wide averages to get a better sense of their local strengths and challenges.

On the whole, C/MFRC patrons continue to have positive experiences and hold the service they receive in high regard, often in very high regard.

Feedback on the various categories of C/MFRC service continues to be positive for the most part. Patrons found that C/MFRCs adhere to the major principles of family support, and also expressed satisfaction with matters of personal development and community integration, family separation and reunion, and maintaining family wellness.

Critical feedback was most common in the category of child and youth development and parenting support. Specifically, 15% were unable to obtain emergency respite childcare when needed, 17% had no plans for emergency childcare arrangements, and 12% were unable to obtain affordable casual childcare services.

The feedback received from the Participant Survey is vital to the success of the MFSP. Hearing directly from CF families keeps the program accountable to the communities we serve, and generates useful data that influences both the local and national evolution of the MFSP.
