Submitting to In Focus
About the In Focus Section of Our Website
The voice of Canadian/Military Family Resource Centres (C/MFRCs) and the celebration of their successes is the raison d’être of In Focus. C/MFRCs can share best practices, information, resources, questions and success stories on the Director Military Family Services (DMFS) website. In Focus gives C/MFRCs the opportunity to express what sets their Centres apart, and recognize the special activities, events and personalities that foster a sense of community.
How to Submit a Story or Idea
There are two ways to get a story published on the In Focus page. C/MFRCs can write and submit their own stories, or submit an idea for a story and let DMFS to do the writing.
To submit your own article to In Focus, send the completed article by email attachment to Jen Dalziel, MFS Information Coordinator at Dalziel.Jennifer@cfpsa.com with the subject line “Story Idea for In Focus”. To submit an idea to In Focus, write a brief paragraph outlining your story idea and send it in the body of the email. Whether you are submitting a completed story or just an idea, be sure to include all necessary contact information so that Jen can conduct a follow-up interview if necessary. Any accompanying photos should also be attached to the email.
In Focus Editorial Guidelines
Specific Guidelines for Authors:
- Use of the first person, I/we, is encouraged.
- Use of photos is strongly encouraged.
- Articles should be submitted as Microsoft Word attachments, single spaced in standard size 10 or 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font.
- Regular articles should be approximately 150 words in length; feature articles should not exceed 500 words.
- Article titles should be 5 words or less in length. Articles may also have subtitles of 10 words or less.
- If the article has been previously translated, please submit copies in both English and French.

All persons pictured must have signed photo release forms, available here and in the Forms section of the Resources for C/MFRCs section of our website.
Important Things to Note:
- Articles should be considered “news” in both senses of the word: they should newsworthy and new. Please focus on items which are exciting or significant to your Centre, and which describe a recent or ongoing event or project.
- Some subject categories for articles include, but are not limited to: mandated or site-specific services; effective business management or governance; individual achievement or awards; lessons learned about service delivery or management activities; effective partnerships in the community. C/MFRCs are also invited to submit changes in C/MFRC staff, Board of Directors, or Advisory Committee members for the “People on the Move” section.
- Articles will be posted to In Focus as time allows. Multiple submissions from a single centre should indicate the priority of each article to assist in the selection and timely publication of each story. It will not be possible for DMFS to give advance notice of the posting date for article submissions.
- The final decision to publish each article rests solely with DMFS.
